She has been coauthor with William D'Antonio, James Davidson, and Dean Hoge: American Catholic Laity in a Changing Church and Laity: American and Catholic (Sheed & Ward 1989, 1996). Her groundbreaking study of women pastors of Catholic churches, They Call Her Pastor (SUNY 1992), centered primarily on American Catholic parishes in rural or small town areas. A continuation of this study focused on women pastors in urban areas. Wallace has presented papers on the priest shortage as a major force for gender equality in the Catholic Church, democratic participation in the Roman Catholic Church, feminist spirituality in a Catholic context, legitimation rituals and role transition for women pastors, and women's roles in religion.
